Firing blanks

Chien-Ming Wang turned in another stellar performance, marred by a 2-out RBI from Eric Hinske, oh, sometime during this amazingly boring game ... which has been salvaged, for now, by Hideki Matsui tomahawking a ball into the rightfield seats off, wait for it ... Troy Percival? More on this later.

Hey John,

Full discloser; I'm a proud Red Sox fan. I'm also a fan of baseball. Love the game and all the good guys that play it. That being said, here is my question to you. Is Wang the most underrated Yankees pitcher, ever?!! I think so.

I think it's probably too early to tell. Certainly his wins in the last three seasons say he's the Yankees' best - and one of the best in the league - but I think for the most part, he gets the credit he deserves. He gives the Yankees a chance to win every time he pitches. You can't ask for more than that. It may be the way he goes about it. Much like the long ball, chicks dig the 97 mph fastball and the strikeout. Wang has been striking more batters out this season, but he pitches mostly to contact. Chicks do not dig the groundout.
